India-Belgium Cooperation in Agriculture and Dairy Innovation Reaches New Heights

The Haryana Dairy Farmers and Agro Association (HDFAA), India, and the Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO), Belgium, have reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agriculture and dairy sectors. This collaboration combines India’s vast agricultural base with Belgium’s advanced research expertise to promote food security and sustainable development.

HDFAA is a government-registered organization operating under the State of Haryana, while ILVO functions under the Government of Flanders, Belgium, and is recognized as one of the most prestigious institutions in Europe and across the globe.

The visiting representatives from ILVO, Belgium, include Dr. Anne Gustin, Dr. Lieve Herman, and Dr. Jurgen Vangeyte. During their visit from April 6 to April 10, 2026, an interactive seminar will be organized at the India International Centre, New Delhi, attended by leading agricultural scientists, industry leaders, senior officials from the Government of India, and public sector representatives. The delegation will also undertake a regional tour of Kurukshetra, Haryana, where they will interact with approximately 500–700 stakeholders, including agricultural and dairy farmers, as well as fisheries entrepreneurs. On April 8, the delegation visited Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, to hold meetings.

Chief Patron Dr. Wasim Alvi stated, “We are proud to share that HDFAA has successfully implemented advanced heat stress management techniques for Holstein Friesian and Jersey breeds in the climate-sensitive regions of North India. Our model dairy farm located in Kurukshetra, Haryana—which operates under official government supervision—recently set a national record by producing 73.5 kilograms of milk from a single cow in a day, without the use of any chemical enhancers.” Patron Dr. Deepti Joshi stated that this facility—which houses over 400 Holstein-Friesian (HF) and Jersey cows—serves as a national demonstration and training center for dairy innovation. The HDFAA currently supports over 400 registered members, including dairy farmers, agricultural scientists, horticultural scientists, researchers, veterinarians, and producers. Our mission is to empower farmers across North India. The HDFAA and ILVO have reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agriculture and dairy sectors—a significant step toward sustainable development, innovation, and food security. The objective of this collaboration is to integrate India’s vast agricultural base and growing dairy industry with Belgium’s advanced technologies, research expertise, and best practices in sustainable farming and dairy management. This partnership will focus on enhancing productivity, improving supply chains, and promoting environmentally responsible agricultural practices. Officials from both sides emphasized the importance of this partnership in addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and rural development. Flanders Trade and Investment, New Delhi, highlighted that this collaboration reflects the strong and growing ties between India and Belgium, as well as their shared vision for a resilient and sustainable agricultural future.

This initiative is also expected to facilitate trade, encourage private sector participation, and support innovation-driven growth within the agriculture, dairy, and fisheries industries. Both organizations expressed their commitment to continued dialogue and cooperation, thereby paving the way for long-term partnerships that benefit farmers, consumers, and the broader economy.
